Laoshan lures R&D with bait of livability

Laoshan district, which sits in the south of Qingdao's Blue Silicon Valley, is powering up to be the city's marine technology research and development dynamo, as it is attracting a growing number of high-tech enterprises and research institutions and cutting edge talent from all over the world.

A trend has developed for an increasing number of high-tech companies to move out of the densely populated urban centers. Seizing the opportunity, Laoshan has made huge efforts to create healthy and livable environment to lure high- tech companies and top research talent.

The new R&D center for the Qingdao-based Hisense Group is located in Laoshan district. Covering an area of 44.3 square kilometers at a cost of $242 million, it is now in operation and is expected to help form a future technological hub for research and development.
