As global attention has turned to the ongoing APEC meetings in Beijing, a high-level disabled-themed meeting is also taking place in the capital, the first time that such an event has been staged during the APEC Economic Leaders' week.

Focusing on equal access and inclusive development, the event aims to introduce to the world China's progress in this field, draw the attention of the APEC economies to the disable community, and promote the inclusion of the theme into the APEC agenda.

Some 650 million disabled people live in the Asia-Pacific region, more than 85 million of them in China. Such a large population has enormous potential, and facing challenges, disabled people have shown their mettle and spirit with unremitting efforts.
