Hainan Island has, since ancient times, been famous for its unique culture that combines elements of mainland Confucianism, tropical island enthusiasm and ethnic diversity.
The Li and Miao ethnic group cultures are particularly prominent on the island. From clothing to buildings, dancing to handicrafts, the groups have preserved their traditions even during rapid globalization.
Miao people live on both the Chinese mainland and the island, but those in Hainan have kept a special part of their culture - embroidery and tapestry.
