Hamlet of El Toboso keeps legend of Don Quixote alive
Drive over the flat, windswept lands of La Mancha to the village of El Toboso and you may recall the opening lines of the novel Don Quixote: "In a village of La Mancha, the name of which I have no desire to call to mind, there lived not long since one of those gentlemen that keeps a lance in the lance-rack, an old buckler, a lean hack and a greyhound for coursing."
Don Quixote is one of the most read books in the world after the Bible. And most, if not all, of the fame of El Toboso - a village of just 2,120 inhabitants 150 kilometers from Madrid - is down to the literary masterpiece by the writer Miguel Cervantes, who lived from 1547 to 1616.
El Toboso's mayor, Marciano Orgeta Molina, will visit China to participate in the Forum of World Tourist Cities from Nov 15 to 17 in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province, to promote cooperation in the tourism sector.
