Words in context: The redesigned test will focus on relevant words, "the meanings of which depend on how they're used". Students will be asked to interpret the meanings of words based on the context in which they appear.

Jim Montoya, vice-president in charge of international and higher education affairs at the College Board, said that the vocabulary section of the SAT often used to involve words that people would memorize for the test and then never use again.

"Those are not the words we wish to focus upon. We wish to focus upon words that students need to understand and will use once they are in college," Montoya said.
