Need for laws to protect Internet

Internet development and online security should be maintained and improved under the legal system, China's top cyberspace watchdog and specialists said on Friday.

It is urgent for the authorities to ensure cybersecurity via laws, to protect netizens' privacy and rein in undesirable online behavior, the Cyberspace Administration of China said after the Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The focus of the landmark meeting of the country's top Party officials, which was held in Beijing from Monday to Thursday, was the rule of law.
