Troops exchange border fire again

The Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea troops briefly exchanged fire on Sunday inside the demilitarized zone that traverses the divided peninsula, the ROK's Defense Ministry said. It was the second exchange of fire across the border this month, after the two countries traded heavy machine gun rounds on Oct 10. There were no reports of casualties.

Russia agrees to supply gas

The Ukrainian president has said his country has reached an agreement with Russia on supplies of natural gas for the winter. President Petro Poroshenko said on Saturday that Russia has agreed to supply Ukraine with gas until March 31 at a price of $385 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Japan

Evacuation drill held on Mt Fuji

Nearly 4,000 people took part in a mass evacuation drill to test responses to a possible eruption of Japan's highest peak, Mount Fuji, on Sunday, weeks after a nearby volcano eruption killed at least 56. Fuji last erupted in 1707.
