Schwarzer slams Qatar Cup

By Xinhua in Canberra | China Daily | Updated: 2014-10-11 07:42

Australia's Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer believes it will take "two or three people to drop dead" before soccer's governing body, FIFA, realizes Qatar is unsuitable to host the 2022 World Cup.

FIFA's decision in 2010 to award Qatar hosting rights to soccer's showcase event continues to be mired in controversy amid allegations of corruption and discussion over the country's suitability as a host.

Schwarzer, a long-serving goalkeeper for Australia, is no stranger to playing in the oppressive conditions of the Middle East, having competed in many matches there for the Socceroos.
