A team of experts led by Yuan Longping, known in China as "the father of hybrid rice", has achieved a record in hybrid rice production, with an average yield of 15,400 kg per hectare, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture said on Friday. A farm in Xupu county in Hunan province set the record, which was confirmed by the ministry's experts. Yuan developed the world's first hybrid rice in 1974.
