Rescuers take stress off Jinggu dam

Water was being released on Friday from the cracked dam at the reservoir in Jinggu county, reducing the risks of dam failure at the epicenter of the earthquake that struck Yunnan province on Tuesday.

"The discharging of water will continue until Tuesday," said Tang Hongjun of the water and electricity section of the People's Armed Police Force.

Around 300,000 cubic meters of water will be kept in Changhai Reservoir, which is a major source of water in the county.
