Buzzword. "Canned laughter" is fake audience laughter, a separate soundtrack inserted into sitcoms and TV comedies. The mechanical laughter recording is compared to bland canned food that always tastes similar. The Big Bang Theory, Friends and Happy Camp in China all have canned laughter.

Metro Beijing: The fifth Cao Xueqin Cultural & Art Festival was held at the Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall in Beijing Botanical Garden - part of the cultural activities to commemorate next year's 300th anniversary of Cao Xueqin's birth. The memorial festival will run through Oct 20. Cao was a famous Chinese writer in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), best known as the author of A Dream of Red Mansions, one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature.

Bilingual: They don't want to work in factories or farms, but at the same time, the white-collar lifestyle remains far out of reach. For the 7.27 million Chinese students who graduated from college last year - a number roughly 2.5 times the US figure - the job market can be brutal: low salaries, long hours and the knowledge that there are millions of other people just waiting to replace you.
