Brazilian goes for another China plunge

China Daily | Updated: 2014-10-07 08:30

The son of a Brazilian World Cup soccer player, Ricardo Azevedo transferred his ball-game gene from the turf to the pool and became a successful water polo player and a renowned coach of the US men's team.

Now, the 58-year-old has moved his skills across the Pacific to lead the Chinese women's squad as it prepares for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, the city of his birth.

"We want to get a gold at the next world championships and we want to get a gold in Rio. I think we have the right girls, the right attitude to go ahead and do that," Azevedo told China Daily after leading the team to gold in Incheon with an unbeaten record.
