Volunteers vital to event's success
When the 45th World Gymnastics Championships opens in Guangxi's capital on Oct 3, an army of volunteers will be ready to offer their services, Zhang Zhouxiang reports in Nanning.
It was eight o'clock and the gate opened. Taking books and materials out of a box, Hu Kexin put them on the counter and practiced an English narration that was prepared weeks ago. She was rehearsing for her job, which would be to show the global press and audience members publications for the 45th World Gymnastics Championships.
Hu was one of 960 volunteers recruited to serve at the championships. According to Chen Min, who is in charge of volunteer coordination, they started recruiting in May. "Can you believe that we got 30,000 resumes? I felt like the HR manager of a multinational corporation," he joked.
