Forum calls for educating people with 'strong passion'

China Daily | Updated: 2014-09-30 07:42

Educating talented, passionate people is the key to saving Earth's oceans.

That was the message of a cross-Straits symposium for ocean-related universities on Sept 19.

"To foster peace, cooperation and harmony in the ocean, and to achieve the sustainable development of all human beings, we need to redouble our efforts to educate more talented professionals who have a strong passion for the ocean and are willing to be engaged in the research, development and protection of the ocean," said Yu Zhigang, president of Ocean University of China. The forum was the fifth annual event for ocean educators, attracting more than 70 representatives from 14 universities across the Taiwan Strait to Qingdao.
