Explorers drawn to poles in spite of hardship

The polar oceanography lab at Ocean University of China has been a lonely place this summer.
Shi Jiuxin, 45, was among very few professors left at the lab when his colleagues set off on an expedition to the Arctic.
Shi started working at the lab in 2006 and has taken part in expeditions to both polar regions six times since 1994.
