Although the demand for qualified interpreters is large and urgent, Wu Qing insists upon running the translation and interpretation department of the School of English and International Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University in a steady, methodical way.

"I don't encourage students to rush to perform when they are not ready," Wu said.

The school has trained many top interpreters, and Wu encourages students to accumulate professional knowledge rather than hurrying to internships.
