By Zhang Yunbi in Tokyo | China Daily | Updated: 2014-09-29 07:34

Policy researchers and veteran officials from China and Japan agreed at a security panel discussion that it is time to put an end to trading barbs and to agree on formulating a code of conduct between the countries' defense authorities.

At the security panel discussion of the 10th Beijing-Tokyo Forum, they advocated pragmatism and liaison over a range of controversial subjects related to territorial and strategic interests in the East China Sea.

A drastic divergence over security agendas has been highlighted as Beijing and Tokyo traded barbs during the past 12 months over what each believed was the other's misbehavior.
