At a Chinese-language class in Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sept 11, students were asked to discuss similarities in social phenomena between India and China.

"It is said that many Chinese tourists spit everywhere when they travel overseas," a female student said.

When Professor B. R. Deepak asked how the student had learned about such alleged habits, she said it was through the reports of Western newspapers.
