More than 19, 000 Chinese tourists have canceled their trips to Boracay, one of the most popular tourist islands in the Philippines, after China advised its citizens against traveling to the country. The cancelations resulted in a 500 million pesos ($11.32 million) loss to the Boracay economy, said the Tourism Department of Western Visayas, Philippines. The department said the real figure is higher as non-accredited tourism firms on this resort island have yet to report their losses. Last year, 1.36 million domestic and foreign tourists visited Boracay, including more than 200,000 from China. In January and February, the number of Chinese visitors reached 52,740.
