Foreign Ministry spokesman HONG LEI voiced serious concern on Monday at a news briefing on violence against Chinese citizens in the Philippines. He urged Manila to solve the kidnapping of a Chinese citizen and arrest those responsible. An 18-year-old Chinese was kidnapped in the southern Philippine province of Zamboanga Sibugay on Thursday. Another Chinese citizen was wounded by gunshots in Mecauayan in the northern Philippine province of Bulacan on Saturday. China has warned its citizens not to travel to the Philippines and reminded Chinese there to take precautions.
