Recent charity drives that have made a splash in China:

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge became a social media philanthropic phenomenon this summer in countries such as China, the United States, and the Republic of Korea. Participants pour a bucket of ice water on themselves or donate $100 to a charity raising money for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or both. Celebrities popularized the event to raise awareness of ALS, a rare disease in which sufferers gradually loses control of their muscles and motor skills.

By the end of August, the China-Dolls Center for Rare Disorders, a nonprofit organization in Beijing, had raised more than 8.15 million yuan ($1.33 million) via Sina Weibo because of the challenge.
