The slow season
September is known as a 'between' time for films, as theaters await juicier offerings after National Day, Han Bingbin reports.
September is an awkward period of time in the Chinese film market, tucked between the end of summer vacation and the start of the National Day holiday. Film companies rarely wish to try their luck at this time, but this September there will be more than 30 new releases. Foreign films, the number of which is restricted by China's quota system during high seasons, are going to be a major attraction.
Children will be a big target audience this month. Starting things off is Indian animation Animal Safari, which premieres on Friday. Technically, it might not be as riveting as animated productions from Hollywood. But it's interesting to watch some Bollywood humor from the animated characters. Just imagine the fun of hearing the animals speak in several Indian accents and watching them dance in Bollywood style.
