are needed to look after Beijing's 2.77 million elderly people, who account for 21 percent of the capital's population. In order to meet the demand, Beijing City University has launched a new major in the care of the elderly this school term. Nursing students will receive specialist training to international professional standards. Several nursing homes have already expressed interest in hiring the students when they complete the four-year course.
