New specialized courts

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress decided last week to start specialized intellectual property courts in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Civil and administrative cases involving highly technical disputes over patents, new plant varieties, integrated circuit designs and tech know-how will be heard at the new courts. Their jurisdiction will not be limited to each city, but complaints against rulings by State Council departments will be heard at the Beijing court.
