Moldy rice triggers 10,000 yuan demand

A man is demanding 10,000 yuan ($1,620) compensation from Sam's Club, a chain of membership-only retail warehouse clubs owned and operated by Wal-Mart Stores Inc, after mold and impurities were found in August in a bag of rice bought from a store in March. The man's family started to eat the rice - which had an expiration date of November - in May. Sam's Club had earlier agreed to pay compensation of more than 1,000 yuan, or 10 times the price of the rice, and says it will continue to investigate the issue.
