Iran
New missiles, drones unveiled
Iran unveiled a new generation of short-range marine missiles and aerial drones on Sunday, as President Hassan Rouhani said the country's military doctrine was based on deterring and countering threats from unnamed foreign powers. The official IRNA news agency said the Ghadir missile, with a range of 100 km, is designed to destroy marine targets. It did not give a range for the Nasr-e Basir cruise missile, but said it could "operate in silence," without elaborating.
United States
Earthquake hits San Francisco
An earthquake of 6.0 magnitude, the largest in the region for 25 years, shook the San Francisco Bay Area early on Sunday, waking residents and causing some power outages but no major damage, according to initial reports.
The US Geological Survey said the epicenter of the quake was eight kilometers northwest of the town of American Canyon, on the northern edge of the Bay.
Japan
Landslide toll reaches 50
The death toll from devastating midweek landslides in Hiroshima rose to 50 with 38 missing on Sunday as fresh rain stoked fears of more disasters and hampered the round-the-clock search for survivors. About 3,000 rescuers, including ground troops, firefighters and police, continued digging through mud and debris in Hiroshima, but their operation was suspended for seven hours Sunday morning as fresh rain raised concerns about more landslips, public broadcaster NHK reported.
Libya

Unidentified warplanes attacked targets in Libya's capital, Tripoli, on Sunday, residents said, hours after forces from the city of Misrata said they had seized the main airport. Tripoli residents heard jets followed by explosions at dawn, but no more details were immediately available.
