Afghan security forces kill 51 militants in a day
Fifty-one Taliban militants were killed during Afghan security forces' operations across the country within a day, the country's Interior Ministry said on Monday morning.
"Afghan National Security Forces conducted cleanup operations and battled the Taliban militants in Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunduz, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Wardak, Logar and Helmand provinces within the past 24 hours, killing 51 armed Taliban rebels," the ministry said in a statement on daily operational updates.
The statement added that eight militants were wounded and eight others were detained by the Afghan military during the raids.
The statement said that Afghan forces found and seized weapons, but did not comment on whether the military had any casualties.
The security forces also recovered and defused 315 Taliban roadside bombs and land mines over the same period, the statement said.
Security forces have pressed forward to clear Taliban militants in restive provinces. The Taliban responds with bombings and armed attacks.
Earlier in the day, one woman who was caught in a crossfire plus two militants were killed, and four border police and 14 militants were wounded, after the militants attacked border police checkpoints in eastern Kunar province, bordering Pakistan, a provincial source said.
