One hundred well-equipped police officers pursued fleeing terrorists in Moyu county of Hotan prefecture after hearing an explosion and asking local villagers to evacuate.
"A villager pointed us in the right direction, and we followed the explosion to a cornfield. Masked men ran out of the field, and we tracked them to an abandoned house," a police officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
When the officers tried to get into the courtyard, a female suspect with explosive devices tied to her body ran out shouting jihadist slogans. Two of the 10 suspects inside were female, and all were young - born in the 1980s and 1990s, the officer said.
