False rumor about fatal crash brings jail, fine

A man who made up an Internet rumor about a fatal road crash has been jailed for 10 days and fined 500 yuan ($81). The 26-year-old hoaxer, surnamed Yang, wrote online that four people had died, and he uploaded three horrific photos of a traffic accident on July 18, Guangzhou Daily reported on Monday. The rumor was forwarded more than 400 times on the Internet.
