Remembering Zhu Naizheng

Some 20 big names from China's art world, including Jin Shangyi and Zhan Jianjun, gathered at the Central Academy of Fine Arts to commemorate the anniversary of artist Zhu Naizheng's death on July 25, 2013. A learned man in many disciplines, Zhu was renowned for his oil painting, calligraphy and ink painting. He was a pioneer in applying the skills of Chinese ink painting into oil painting. His masterpiece, a portrait of the great poet Qu Yuan, is an icon of this practice. In Zhu's later years, he devoted himself to calligraphy, which he had been practicing since his 20s and which was been said to be better than his oil painting.
