A well-known legend in China says that long, long ago there were 10 suns in the sky. Usually they worked in turns, but one day all of them set out together, making the world too hot for people to live. So a young archer called Hou Yi shot down nine of the suns to cool the earth, leaving only one to give people warmth and light they need.
But in Rucheng county of Chenzhou city, the story does not end there. Local people believe that one of the suns fell into the local river, making the water hot. Today the county is a destination for lovers of hot springs.
The Reshui - or Hot Water - River that winds its way through Reshui village has an average temperature of 91.5 C . Sometimes it even reaches 98 C.
