International sports veteran eager to assist China's effort
From China losing its first Olympic bid in 1993 to successfully hosting the 2008 Beijing Olympics in spectacular style, Wei Jizhong has witnessed the country rising from obscurity to prominence in the international Olympic community.
After playing instrumental roles in China's first two Olympic bids in 1993 and 2001, the energetic 77-year-old is prepared to offer what it takes for the third time to help the bid for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
"If there is anything I can do to help that no one else can, I will do my best without hesitation (to help the bidding committee of Beijing and Zhangjiakou to host the 2022 Games)," said Wei, former secretary-general of the Chinese Olympic Committee and honorary life president of the International Federation of Volleyball.
