Editor's note: Xinjiang is known for its colorful landscape and diverse culture. China Daily explores this beautiful region through its many faces and facets.

Renovation of the central old town area of Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region may be extended to the end of 2015 to ensure that all residents willing to renovate can take advantage of the government subsidy, said Shi Shixiong, an official from the city's renovation work office.

The outer areas of the old town, which is divided into 27 construction zones, will be completed in 2017, a year later than scheduled, Shi said.
