Montreal eyes direct air link with China
After enjoying record traffic of over 14 million passengers last year and further strengthening its role as a global air transportation hub with the addition of new carriers and destinations, Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is actively setting its sights on establishing a nonstop, direct air link with China.
"Montreal represents the biggest market in North America that hasn't secured a direct air link with China and we feel we should be next in line," said James Cherry, president and CEO of Aroports de Montral, the airport authority responsible for Montreal -Trudeau airport and the all-cargo Montreal-Mirabel Airport. "We are in active discussions with various stakeholders with a view to obtaining a landing slot in Beijing and beginning what we believe will be a very popular service between Montreal and China."
"It is perfectly positioned to offer China a transportation and logistics gateway to North America, as well as many exciting business opportunities," said Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
