Palace Museum scholar awarded

The Oriental Ceramic Society, an international organization dedicated to the study of Asian ceramics and other artworks, recently awarded Beijing's Palace Museum researcher Geng Baochang with the 11th Hills Gold Medal. Since its establishment in 1921, the society has enhanced understanding of Asian arts, especially porcelain art, worldwide through conferences, lectures and publications. The award is named after Robert Chadwick Hills, who in 1971 provided funds to honor scholars who have done extraordinary work in the study of Asian porcelains. Geng, 92, is the second Chinese to win the award. He has worked as a ceramic expert for the Palace Museum for 58 years, and has studied ancient ceramics since he was young. Identification of Ceramics from Ming and Qing Dynasties, a book he wrote years ago, is the first monograph in China studying ancient porcelains and has an international reputation.
