Educator's approach draws global attention

Many say China's exam-oriented education system elicits two extreme responses from parents and students: Some criticize and protest fiercely, while others find ways and the means to get good grades.

Zhu Yongxin, an education professor and vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, wants neither of these.

Zhu, 56, has come up with what he says are practical ways to help children better survive the system without failing too badly in exams or ruining their childhoods in preparing for them.
