Region rejects report of island's 14 yuan price tag

By Huo Yan and Su Qiulan in Nanning | China Daily | Updated: 2014-06-12 06:52

The Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region rejected a recent online report that claimed the region is selling an uninhabited island for 14 yuan ($2.20).

The region's oceanic administration said the 14 yuan price tag refers to the lowest annual price for a hectare of land on some of its islands.

This is in accordance with the central government's regulations, said a director of the administration's island management office who would not reveal his name.
