A paralyzing subway strike in Sao Paulo has been suspended, though union officials warn that if their demands aren't met they will resume the strike again on Thursday - the day Sao Paulo hosts the opening match of the World Cup. Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and British Foreign Secretary William Hague vowed on Tuesday to produce practical action from the world's first summit on ending sexual violence in conflict, to punish those responsible and help victims. Up to 1,200 government ministers, military and judicial officials and activists from up to 150 nations will attend the June 10-13 summit, intended as a call for action to protect women, children and men from rape and sex attacks in war zones.
Germany
President can scron neo-Nazis
Germany's president Joachim Gauck has the right to call members of a neo-Nazi party "loonies", the country's top court ruled on Tuesday. The Federal Constitutional Court dismissed a complaint by the far-right, anti-immigration National Democratic Party of Germany against the remark in August by the largely ceremonial head of state. The fringe party had argued that the president is supposed to stay neutral on day-to-day party politics.
