Expansion work starts on VW's Ningbo base

Construction started on Shanghai Volkswagen's expanded production base in Hangzhou Bay New Zone, Ningbo, in East China's Zhejiang province, on May 27.

The first phase of the Ningbo production base started operating in October 2013 and the newly expanded area is due to be completed by 2016.

The new area is expected to help the automaker achieve its ambition to make the Ningbo plant a global benchmark for Volkswagen.
