The University of Hong Kong's new head has underlined strengthening ties with mainland colleges as key for the globalization of the oldest tertiary education institution in Hong Kong.
Peter Mathieson, the first foreign president and vice-chancellor of HKU in 41 years, appeared in Beijing earlier this month just five weeks after assuming his position, meeting school officials of elite mainland universities and sharing experiences of educational exchanges.
Envisioning HKU's future prospects under his helm, the London native was bold on developing links with mainland colleges both academically and culturally.
