Xi: China does not seek hegemony

Chinese people do not accept the logic that "a country will seek hegemony whenever it becomes a power"and do not have such genes in their blood, President Xi Jinping said on Thursday when attending a conference in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Guests from more than 40 countries, including politicians such as former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama, attended the conference.

Wildfires sweep south California

Wildfires were raging in Southern California on Thursday, keeping thousands of residents and students away from their homes after San Diego County officials maintained evacuation advisories. Whipped by the wind, flames swept over the parched land close to homes and roads in nine fires across the county.

Israel kills 2 in Nakba clash

Israeli troops shot dead two Palestinian teens in a West Bank clash that erupted on Thursday after Palestinians marked their uprooting during the Middle East war over Israel's 1948 creation, a doctor said. Three Palestinians were wounded, one seriously, when Israeli troops fired to disperse stone throwers near an Israeli military checkpoint in the West Bank, said Dr Samir Saliba, head of the emergency department at Ramallah Hospital.
