Shanghai, British police nab dealers of fake goods

By Wu Yiyao in Shanghai | China Daily | Updated: 2014-05-14 07:02

Shanghai police have arrested two men, including a British national, for allegedly shipping 30 million yuan ($4.8 million) in counterfeit goods produced in China to Britain and selling them illegally.

Early last year, Shanghai customs officials found a box bound for Britain containing 15,000 logos of foreign brands. The officials then contacted the police's economic crime investigation department.

In cooperation with British police, the department tracked down a suspect group in Liverpool, which sold counterfeit products, including leather goods, eyewear and footwear that were produced by factories in China and assembled in Liverpool. The products were sold in Liverpool for up to 200 pounds ($337) each.
