Gunmen abduct Chinese worker

Gunmen kidnapped a Chinese national working at a fishery in eastern Malaysia on Tuesday and may have taken him to the southern Philippines, where suspected insurgents are holding another Chinese and a Filipino, also taken from Malaysia. Mohamad Bakri Zinin, Malaysia's national deputy police chief, said five men clad in military fatigues entered the fishery before dawn and kidnapped manager Yang Zailin, 34.

UN: Refugees flee S. Sudan

South Sudanese refugees have poured into neighboring Ethiopia over the past three days to flee fighting in their homeland, the United Nations said on Tuesday. Adrian Edwards, spokesman for the UN high commissioner for refugees, said more than 11,000 people had crossed into Ethiopia over the past 72 hours.

Two bombs strike town

Two bombs exploded minutes apart in the southern Thai city of Hat Yai on Tuesday, wounding five people. Police said they suspected Muslim rebels were responsible.
