Xi extends condolences over catastrophe

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to his Afghan counterpart, Hamid Karzai, on Sunday over the landslide in the country's northern province.

"I am shocked to learn of the severe landslide that has caused huge human casualties and property losses in the Badakhshan province of your respected country," Xi said.

Xi, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, mourned the dead and sent sincere condolences to those injured and to the bereaved families.

Xi said he had confidence in the Afghan government and people to overcome the disaster and rebuild their homeland as quickly as possible.

Xi also said that China was willing to offer support and aid for disaster relief in Afghanistan.
