China Daily | Updated: 2014-05-05 08:20

Eleven people have died from the collapse of an uncompleted bridge in south China's Guangdong province on Saturday, local authorities said on Sunday.

The stone arch bridge under construction in Liangkengkou, a village in Gaozhou, collapsed at around 1 pm on Saturday, a Gaozhou publicity official said.

Rescuers pulled 27 people out of the debris, five of whom were confirmed dead at the scene and eight others who suffered serious injuries, the official said, adding that six of the seriously wounded survivors later died at a hospital.
