When a public trial is called for

Under the judicial interpretation issued by China's top court on Tuesday, courts must publicly try the following situations:

Convicts applying for a reduction in their sentence for significant exemplary service.

The time a convict applies for a reduction of sentence within his or her prison term, the time between the first and second sentence-reduction applications and the number of years to be reduced from a sentence are not in accordance with the general principles of the judicial interpretation.
