The number of applications for invention patents accepted by the State Intellectual Property Office in the first quarter of 2014, an increase of 10.6 percent year-on-year. China has made significant progress on invention patent applications and grants as it aims to forge an innovation-powered economy. The proportion of such applications in all the patent applications accepted grew to nearly 40 percent in the first three months.
