Adequate preparation is the best way to prevent mishaps during school excursions, education specialists from China and abroad suggest, amid rising concern over students' safety on such outings.
"Children will have a good time safely if everything is carefully planned and arranged before schools take them out for activities," said Chu Zhaohui, a senior researcher on basic education at the National Institute of Education Sciences.
Chu's remarks were made following a traffic accident on April 10 in Wenchang, Hainan province, in which eight primary school students were killed and 32 injured while on a spring outing. Seven people involved in the incident, including the school's principal, have been detained.
