Injured Derung girl, 5, brought to Beijing

A severely burned 5-year-old girl belonging to the Derung ethnic group was rushed to Beijing from a remote area in Yunnan province on Wednesday for emergency treatment.

The speedy trip was the result of help from local authorities in Yunnan, a generous airline and the Beijing police department.

The girl, Pu Yanfang, was burned in a fire pit at her home on April 10 in the once-isolated ethnic region that is cut off from the outside world for six months each year by heavy snow.
