Jet lands after tire bursts

A Malaysia Airlines plane with 166 people aboard was forced to make an emergency landing in Kuala Lumpur early on Monday in another blow to the flag-carrier's safety image after the loss of flight MH370. Flight MH192, bound for Bangalore, India, turned back to Kuala Lumpur shortly after it was discovered that a tire had burst during takeoff, the airline said.

Riot police, protesters clash

Fresh clashes erupted in the capital on Sunday, with hooded anti-government protesters hurling rocks and Molotov cocktails at riot police, who returned fire with rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons. Eight people were reported injured in the unrest that erupted in the upscale Chacao district of Caracas, a hotbed of anti-government opposition.

Musharraf seeks to lift travel ban

Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf, currently facing trial for high treason, asked a court on Monday to lift a travel ban on him as he wants medical treatment abroad, his lawyers said. The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has included Musharraf's name on the Exit Control List, which means he cannot leave the country without permission.

Thieves steal fuel worth $69,000

UK police are hunting a gang of thieves who are thought to have tapped into an underground oil pipeline, stealing thousands of liters of fuel. More than 30,000 liters of diesel may have been taken from the pipeline running from Esso's Fawley Refinery. That would be worth about $69,000 at pump prices.
